- Read and interpret blueprints or CAD drawings of parts to be cast.
- Incorporate the appropriate shrinkage factor for that material for final pattern dimensions.
- Program computerized numerical control machine tools.
- Set up and operate appropriate machine tools or woodworking machines
- Clean and finish patterns or templates, using emery cloths, files, scrapers, and power grinders, apply oil, shellac, lacquer, wax, or paint
- Assemble pattern sections, using hand tools, bolts, screws, rivets, glue, or welding equipment
- Verify dimensions of completed patterns, using templates, straightedges, calipers, or protractors
- Repair and rework templates and patterns
