On-the-job Training
  • Mold Shop - Beginner Training / Safety Training PPE
    • Initial walk-around of entire Mold Shop.
    • General overview of Mold Shop safety procedures and PPE required for department. Examples: Pedestal grinder, belt sander, and MSDS chemicals
    • Give general overview of each individual machine for the purposes of mold maintenance. Purpose of machine, how machine works, what the machine does, how important the machine is (scale of priority), common issues, material and waste flow.
    • Train on the location and proper use of measuring equipment. General metrology in regards to blueprint reading and inspection of components, with understanding of sizes, tolerance, and signs and symbols.
    • Training of Work Orders and general structure and flow of jobs throughout the shop from Teardown, Cleaning, Inspection, to Reassembly of the Mold and each operation in order to complete a preventative maintenance.
    • Walk-around of Mold Storage Area (MSA), where stored molds and mold carts are kept, identification, storage location and marking of molds and accessories.
    • Review all necessary paperwork for completing preventative maintenance’s and mold condition reports.
  • Mold Shop - Training Intermediate
    • Bench work of components including disassembly, cleaning, reassembly.
    • Metrology Measuring and recording of given dimensions from blue print or model.
    • Identify, describe and use various measuring tools.
    • Identify ways to care for measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, etc.
    • Follow proper measuring procedures using precision measuring equipment.
    • Apply precision tools and instruments for surface plate work.
    • Interpret mold component and assembly drawings.
    • Understands document control.
    • Ability to perform "A" PM's with minimal assistance.
    • Bench Work: Identify layout tool and equipment including scribe, center punch, surface plate, caliper, scale and lay out fluid.
    • Apply proper polishing techniques to selected materials.
    • Identify thread types and gauging techniques.
    • Apply proper tapping techniques using various taps. Demonstrates the ability to select the proper tap drill size for a selected tap.

    • Viewing the cabinet where new and upcoming orders are kept, how to read production orders and bill of materials (BOM), viewing pick sheets and how to send pick sheets to have new orders pulled, viewing orders to have labels made, etc.

    • Use of mathematics in machining and measuring
    • Use of manual lathe to machine components to the required specifications. Understanding the proper flow of components and records required to satisfy the job.
    • Use of manual mill to machine components to the required specifications. Understanding the proper flow of components and records required to satisfy the job.
    • Use of Surface Grinder to machine components to the required specifications. Understanding the proper flow of components and records required to satisfy the job.
    • Use of O/D I/D Grinder to machine components to the required specifications. Understanding the proper flow of components and records required to satisfy the job.
    • Work with and utilize Solid Works software to model and machine components with the ability to create component specific blue prints with dimensions and tolerance.
