  • Assessment and Curriculum
    • Actively participates in curriculum planning sessions to develop clear learning objectives for optimal learning and designing unit lesson plans and supports teaching staff with professional development objectives
    • Share observations and provide ongoing documentation and record keeping on children as requested by Program Director
    • Recommends best practices to Director and designs lessons emphasizing children’s interests, culture, School Readiness goals, State Guidelines, physical activity recommendations.
    • Embraces, promotes, directs and participates in bi-lingual curriculum delivery outlined by the facility and provides support for staff as needed
    • Promote children's love of language, culture, learning, and playing alongside each other to prepare for success in school maintaining and supervising a safe, caring, and respectful environment where children are encouraged by adults and peers to express themselves
  • Health and Nutrition
    • In partnership with the Program Director, will work with assistant teacher to ensure timely implementation and review results of child screenings within required timeframes.
    • Completes required meals and attendance records and submits to Director
    • Initiates and engages in reflective discussions with families related to health and developmental status of child to promote timely health care.
    • Assures on-going follow-up and related documentation in a timely manner related to unmet health outcomes and reports outcomes to Director
    • Models and promotes healthy eating habits and tooth brushing and provides staff with support
    • Models and promotes physical activity by demonstrating being physically active and provides staff with support
    • Assures proper cleaning, sanitation and disinfection procedures are followed by staff to promote healthy habits within the classroom environment and reports any concerns to Program Director
  • Partners with families supporting parent-child relationships and promoting parents as first and most important teachers
    • Plans, initiates and participates in regularly planned outreach to parents for involvement with curriculum planning
    • Chooses curriculum to identify diverse family values, beliefs, faith traditions, cultural influences, family structure and circumstances and modifies curriculum to reflect family values.
    • Assures required parent education topics are being addressed through a variety of individual and group strategies through collaboration with other classroom staff and makes plans to follow up as needed
    • Engages parents in classroom and individualized curriculum discussion to establish effective home school connection and provides ongoing outreach
    • Recognizes need for and supports meaningful and intentional referrals for the child and families agency programs and provides documentation
    • Supports families in crisis by identifying options and resources and applying them to intervene when needed in collaboration with the Program Director.
  • Program involvement, leadership, advocacy and social connections
    • In collaboration with staff and Program Director, facilitate orienting parents and other volunteers, encourage parent participation and visitation in the classroom, attend parent meetings as requested and/or provide childcare
    • Actively plans for and facilitates frequent parent participation on child care facility sponsored enrichment activities community events
    • Regularly updates and educates parents about child care facility services
  • Practice safe working habits and contribute to a safe and peaceable workplace
    • With Program Director, assist staff in planning and implementing a daily age-appropriate program that meets the needs of groups of children as well as individuals, providing for their health, safety and education
    • Ensure the safety of children at all times. Never leave a child unattended or unsupervised and provide expectations to staff in multiple modalities
    • Recognize, document and report signs of illness and other concerns to Program Director and support staff in adhering to protocol
    • Supervise staff and work with Program Director in maintaining a clean, safe and developmentally appropriate environment for children
    • Documents and communicates to staff and Director to assure required emergency procedures are practiced and communicated with families
    • Promotes protective factors to prevent child abuse and neglect; identifies and refers families to the Dept. of Health and Human Services Child Protection Services and maintains up to date records of all referrals
  • Contributes to effective program practices and interdisciplinary approaches
    • Demonstrate and promote the facility's child development philosophy, plans and policies, and mission, vision, and values to staff and parents
    • Facilitates effective, purposeful and respectful team communications while promoting staff input to promote continuous program improvement
    • Assist Program Director and supervise staff in orienting parents and other volunteers, encourage parent participation and visitation in the classroom, attend parent meetings as requested and/or provide child care as needed
    • Assume all classroom responsibilities in absence of Assistant Teacher
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Program Director, center staff, parents and community
    • Participate in staff or related meetings as requested
    • Work cooperatively as a team member, assisting where needed in the center
